They sent someone to "upgrade" the systems at my crappy corporate day job.
I need to know what to expect as to stability above all else. Any other insights also VERY welcome.
As is well known I'm not a fan of MS but, NT's been a solid, stable OS there.
XP scares me 'cause I don't know it
Thanks in advance.

Are you a sysadmin? Because if you are, you should be asking why the upgrade? Corporate policy is best served by, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

From NT4? Damn. You'll probably be upgrading to Windows 2000 then.

You better hope you're upgrading to 2k. The alternative is XP. Barf.

If I was sysadmin it would be 100% UNIX. The -E stands not for Enterprise but Embedded? I have no idea. >>3
The upgrade to NT 4.0 was FROM DOS 4.0. WordPerfect 5.1, DBase III, Quatro Pro. But I've never given a flop about cubicle shit (could be why I'm still a drone).
This "upgrade" is on the stuff that actually makes money.

I've spent some time supporting NT and XP, and (in my experience) the XP machines were much more stable.
Maybe that's because the XP machines were running on better hardware. Maybe not. Take it for what it's worth and don't panic, though.
Unless you're afraid they'll wipe your machine and destroy your lunchtime pr0n collection. That warrants panic. A lot of panic.

Windows 2000. It's the best Windows codebase, with the least bloat.
