RADEON 9550 Issues.

Name: Anonymous 2005-10-19 20:25

I just bought a RADEON 9550 256MB AGP 8x graphics card.

I uninstalled all old drivers, disabled my onboard video card.
Put the Radeon into the AGP slot, installed the latest drivers from ATI's website, tried most anything I can to get it to work properly.

It fails. <_<

After the Windows XP bootup screen, it just..turns black.
I hear the Windows XP start up music, and that's it.
Black screen, the monitor isn't in standby (Like when you usually dont have anything displaying) Its just..black.

Processer: AMD Sempron 3000+ 2.0ghz
RAM: 512MB
Its..a Compaq computer, don't know the model.

I'm really not sure what's wrong, but if anyone can help I'd really appriciate it. x_x

Unrelated, but you also need more RAM, d00d.

IIRC, 9550s (and, for that matter, 9500s) aren't sold in stores anymore.  In fact, they were the first R3xxs to get pulled from shelves.  I'm guessing you got it second-hand from a place such as eBay.  It could be broken.

On the other hand, it could be trying to feed an invalid video mode to the monitor.  After the BIOS splash screen, hold F8.  Some if not all Windows XP systems will allow you to boot in "VGA Mode," which gives you an unaccelerated 640x480 low color screen.  Set the appropriate resolution, and restart.

I'll try that.

And I got it from Wal-Mart.
I had one before on my old Athlon 1600+ Computer.
It worked -great- so maybe the problem is your second suggestion.

I'll post again if that was the problem. :0

Thanks.

That didn't work, as soon as I try to change the resolution, the computer crashes. :\

Completely uninstall ATI drivers, and try the Omega drivers

Don't change these.
