laptop battery

So ive gotten this Panasonic CF-R1 mini notebook from a friend; slightly used, no real wear and tear. everything is fine with it, but the battery is a bit off. i fully charge it, and it discharges fine till it hits about 46%, and then it drops immediatly to 9%, then slowly to 5% and stays there for an indefinite amount of time. so my guess is that there is some kind of battery memory problem- it thinks its almost empty, but its not; it can sit on %5 for a good hour or so, never changing. i've read about a similar problem with macs that can be fixed with a few lines in the firmware menu. does anybody know if there is a windows 2000 equivalency? or is there some other way to fix my little compy?
thanks.

my UPS, and 2 laptops both do this shit. even when they were brand new.

macs used to have a "battery reprogram utility" that would run the battery all the way down, then charge it back up. and solve this problem, im sure theres something like this for windows/linux but i havent found it. that sounds like its what you need though.

basically if your to lazy to dig something like that up, get a stop watch, time how long it lasts, and then just get a stop watch program for the system tray, set it to beep 5 minutes before the battery should die. proffit.

and yes just to really, really answer your last question. this is a hardware problem, NOT a problem with windows

i let it discharge on "5%" till it died, recharged it, and then it went all the way down to 20% before it jumped to 9% the time after. maybe ill just turn the fucking beeping alarm off and check it every 2 minutes or something.

Very good info. My old laptop used to do this.

Don't change these.
