Can't Delete Directory (Folder)

Name: Anonymous 2005-10-06 15:36

Sometimes when I try to delete a folder, it tells me I can't because it's being used by another program.  But it's NOT being used by any other program I have running.  What gives?

is there any programs in the folder or in the folder it contains???

Ignore >>2 he's a silly person.

A program has opened the folder in question and has neglected to close it. Can you give examples of the folders you are trying to delete?

What's so fun about Linux users is their lack of knowledge of Win32 and Windows 2000. They keep trolling against MS-DOS 3.22 and Windows 3.11, which is easier and makes Linux look so good.

Windows NT and related operating systems do have that. DEL /S /Q will work, and you have at least one, probably several native RM implementations if you want. I have mine. You also have Cygwin's RM port, which as of late merges all volumes in a virtual / directory (which you can also get done in other ways).

You know, I love flaming linux users, but that has to be the stupidest thing I've read today.

Not rly, they'll keep trolling against the same crap that ceased to happen ten years ago, and they'll claim Windows can't do whatever you can't do with Windows Explorer in XP Home without additional software.

I had a folder named '4chan' within another folder of pictures.  I was reducing some of the pics in size and saving them to the 4chan folder so I could post them in /p/ without getting the image too big error (used IrfanView to reduce & save, in case that matters).  Anyhow, when I was done posting, I went to delete the 4chan folder, it gave me the in use error.  I used the cmd promt to del the files within the folder, but still couldn't delete the folder itself.

Funny thing, though, I simply renamed the folder from 4chan to 'asdf' and then deleted it without any problems.

It was probably opened in with the wrong options by another process (like IrfanView), and it might have been released before you renamed the directory - or you renamed it but they were still taken; because of which it actually created another direcotry and moved all but the open directories and files into it - or something really weird happened.

You might want to try an utility to see which process has open what, like SysInternal's handle ( http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/Handle.html ) .

lol you're the easiest person ever to be trolled; I wasn't even trolling and you still got trolled. I was just pointing out to the previous poster that there is no rm command, so there's no point in posting how to use it. Yes I know there's a DEL command, I grew up on DOS.
