Video thumbnails were locking me so i did the thing where you /u the dll for that. stopped THAT problem but now video being played locks up. also, now IE locks when i attempt to use windows update and see if that might help. locks MIGHT eventually come out of it but my machine sucks and i'm not waiting all day for it so i've been resetting.
I have installed fresh video drivers, installed codecs, etc, nothing seems to be working so far. help is greatly appreciated.

You DON'T want to use MSIE. Seriously. Get rid of it, use Firefox, unless you want your system to last 15 days, no matter what configuration and firewalls are you using. Besides, MSIE sucks and hurts the net with its broken, buggy, shitty implementation of web standards (or lack thereof). Web developers can't do good stuff because people use that MSIE piece of shit.

Hi tard. I'm not WANTING to use IE, it's a symptom. I was attemtping to get windows updates to see if that might help my shit. I do not and have no intention of using it as my primary browser, I was just listing where the problem was manifesting.
Also, i was fucking around in style xp to change my logon screen, and that froze too. Tomorrow i'm going to do a repair install with a SP2 disc even though this install is non-Sp'd. Hopefully that'll take care of it.
It seems they hit the wrong button several times and in all boards.
Or the board code is bugged.
Or they just randomly selected a 1-2 stupid threads per board and deleted the rest.

Repair install doesn't fix all problems. It works in maybe eight out of ten situations. Repair install will NOT magically fix fucked-up software (eg. screwed up third-party codecs), will NOT magically remove viruses or spyware, and won't fix bad or outdated drivers. Try a completely clean install (back up important files, format, reinstall onto completely empty HD) before you start throwing money at new hardware.
