Windows 2000 Error

Name: Incognito !kY1/OAd35Y 2005-09-22 23:34

Okay, I just got a new laptop and installed windows 2000 on it. Only thing is, the install fucked up or something, so none of the drivers got installed with it. I have tried reinstalling over it, and I'm just formatting and installing again, but is there anything else that could cause this? Thanks to the awsomeness that awnsers me.

A scratched disc.

A scratched disc would usually cause setup to report not being able to copy certain files during the install process. Sounds unlikely it would just arbitrarily leave out files without warning the user.

Anyway, >>1, what do you mean none of the drivers were installed? Do you mean all the devices in device manager showed up as not working/driver missing, or just some of them? Or that when you try to add new devices the selectable list of pre-installed drivers is not there? It's very common that after you finish installing Windows you have to install appropriate drivers for a number of devices, often including sound, video, chipset, USB, network drivers and more. You usually have to install them from the driver CD that may have come with your computer, or download them from the manufacturer's website (better, because you're getting the latest version). Windows isn't going to have drivers for devices that were made after it was released.

No, like, all my devices show up as missing drivers. Fuck. I'll just install a copy of XP over it.

Yeah, you have to install your motherboard's drivers (look for chipset, then head to the chipset vendor for them) and your graphic card drivers (same) at the very least.

FUCK! I just used my last blacnk CD to burn XP, and widnows 2000 won't let me upgrade to it. FUCK!

So don't upgrade, format and install XP from scratch.

Don't change these.
