Computer doesn't post: Help

Name: Arc 2005-09-17 0:18

when I went to bed last night, my computer was working fine. when I woke up, the fans and stuff were on, but the mouse was off, and nothing would return the computer from having the display off.  I thought "that's weird. Oh well, i'll just reboot."  But... the buttons didn't work.  So i turned the power off on the power supply, turned it bacvk on, and pushed the power button on the front. the fans turned on, the drives turned on... but nothing on the screen, no motherboard beeps, nothing.

last month, early, my power supply fucked up, so the computer would only sometimes post, and when it did, it would fuck up into graphical corruption before windows started.  But now it doesn't post at all, so wtf is it :(

NO SHIT FAGFACE
I narrowed it down the cpu or the motherboard.  I figured I'd might as well replace both and upgrade well.  TOO BAD THE STORES WHERE I LIVE CARRY SHIT.
They're like "we don't carry cpus or motherboards" or "We only carry intel products.  You can buy our only cpu, a Celeron D, and any one of our vast selectgion of pentium 4 motherboards, but tha'ts it :D"
Fuck you Japan.

No motherboard beeps? Speakers on?

If so- yeah, it probably is your motherboard. You should be really sure about the beeps before RMAing or buying a new one, though.

No beeps whatsoever.
Tried to pick up stuff at my local computer store. They don't sell AMD shit.  Fuck you Japan and fuck you Intel.
Ordered online, new processor and new mobo.  Gonna take a week to get here. how inconvenient.

I forget to mention: have you reset the CMOS and/or the battery?

I hadn't, but I have now.  Unplugged everything but the cpu/ram/video card, reset the CMOS, tried again.

BAMF, same result as before, nothing on screen, no beeps, nothin'.

Looks like the power supply is broken.

Unfuckinglikely.  The PSU is new.
Also, it acts the same with another PSU as well, so unless ALL PSUs are broken, then, no.

So, replacing the mobo and cpu = fixed computer.

Once I got the old mobo out and was able to look at it closely, it appears to me that I had the infamous bad capacitors.  Like, 8 of them are all bulging at the top, and 2 or 3 have leaked electrolyte out the bottom.  So yeah, I'm gonna go with that.

Don't change these.
