DVD or AVI Screenshots

Hopefully someone here can help, cause google keeps returning shit i don't want.

I'm looking for a program that can read through a dvd or avi/mpg files and take screenshots every X seconds or minutes.

Google only results in things like "View Screenshots of AVI to DVD" and crap, and i've tried whatever search term i can think of using, but none really help.

Perhaps VirtualDub or AviSynth, I don't know, never had to do that.

I'm just looking for an easy way to grab screens from dvds/avis to use for mosaic images.

Hypersnap DX is what you need. It is capable of capturing from overlay surfaces (very important that), and its "Quick Save" capture mode, which automatically saves and numbers captures, has a handy little "repeat last capture every x seconds" option in the Quick Save dialogue box. Should suit your purpose down to the ground.
