Filezilla FTP prob

Hello
Set up an filezilla ftp server to transfer some files and manage stuff, but I have a small problem. I can connect fine to the server and that end seems to be working okay, but when I try to load the directory list it times out every time. I have tried several things such as passive mode and messing with several possible settings but none of that worked. Now the server is behind a firewall and I have fowarded the ports your connect to the server on, and as I said I can connect to it fine, its just that I cant get a directory listing.

By any chance is the "data channel" refered to in the log another port I should foward?

There are two ports. One for control and one for data. FTP is a freaky protocol.

Is the server firewalled? Are you firewalled?

- If the server is firewalled (with a redirected port for the incoming data connection) but the client isn't, use active mode.
- If you are firewalled but the server isn't, use passive mode.
- If the server is firewalled, open a few contiguous ports (5 should be fine). Tell the server to use these ports in NAT configuration in the FileZilla server options. Also, if the server's internal IP is different than its public one, i.e. you're doing NAT, configure the FileZilla server to fetch its real IP in the same panel. Then use active mode to connect to the server.

Well spank my ass, worked. I was fucking around with passive and active for a bit but never defined that many ports. Oh well thank you.
