So are there still webhosts who offer ad free (and at least 20mb of space) hosting at no cost?

100webspace.com used to do it, but no longer.
XThost.info fails and has only 10mb of space.

Hell, yes. Then remember they ended up as nbci.com, then they locked me out of FTP access so I couldn't change my site, the bastards, then went under. You still see links to old xoom.com websites here and there...
