Building a media pc

Name: Anonymous 2005-08-25 9:19

Since the faggoty mods at /g/ deleted my thread, I guess it qualified as a help question. Anyway, I'm looking to building a media pc, specifially for playing anime, music, dvd rips, etc.

I'm looking for suggestions; what hardware do you prefer? OS? Software? Overall setup?

I currently have a regular CRT television, but I'm thinking of ditching it for a LCD monitor.

All comments are welcome, thanks.

Windows 2000 BTW. It'll run fine out of the box plus all patches, but if you spend on configuring, optimizing and finetuning it half the time you do on Linux, with about the same knowledge of the system, it'll be great.

Celeron 1.2ghz, socket 486 on a halfsize motherboard with 1 agp slot and 2 expansion slots, onboard ethernet.

Grab 512mb PC133 ram, a Radeon All-In-Wonder (MUST have TV in, MUST have S-Video out, SHOULD have DVI out), a Sound Blaster Audigy, and a good DVD-CD reader/writer, at least 100gb hard disk, cram it all into a shortbox mini-case, and run a pirated version of Windows XP.

You should not pay more than $300 for the entire computer or you are getting ripped off.
