.srt/.ssa file issues

Name: Anonymous 2005-08-03 0:47

I've been trying to play the RAW of Peto Peto-san ep 1 using the subtitle file that came out recently ( http://shoutoku.tripod.com/) but I can't get them to load. I tried parsing them to the .avi file using VirtualDub Mod but I get a message saying that its not a valid .srt file. I also tried loading it on VLC and Media Player Classic but get noting. What should I do?

Try downloading the .srt again, it might have been interrupted during download.

Checksums people, checksums!

No offense, but I think it takes more time to systematically verify these long MD5 sums for every crap you download, than to find out your download was corrupt 0.1% of times.

first of all, which one is it? ssa and srt are completely different formats.
And second, wtf do you mean tried parsing it into an avi. That's complete and utter nonsense. avi doesn't support softsubs

One way to do this is to get an mkv muxer and make an mkv with softsubs. Another way is to load the sub externally with vsfilter (vobsub).

finally, if it's a .srt you can load it externally with ffdshow (probably simplest of these three ways)

Quite right, but you could at least check it before asking for help (no offense to the original poster)

Don't change these.
