137GB+ disks

Is there a good way to check if your disk can handle 137+ GB? Is it all about what OS/SP you are running or does it have something to do with what OS/SP you were running when the disk was formated?
i am running XP sp2 but have no idea what os/sp was used to format my new 200gig drive.

Passing the 137Gb limit is a combination of both BIOS and OS support. Any BIOSes after about September 2002 should be okay (and if not, you may be able to reflash it with an updated firmware from the m/b's manufacturer's website). You also need XP SP1 or later, or 2000 SP4, which you already have. It should support it okay regardless of whether you had a 137Gb+ disk when the OS was installed.

If you are using WinXP w/ SP1 or SP2, you shouldn't have any problems with using a +137GB HDD. I don't think it has anything to do with how it was formatted though.

IF you do discover after buying a HD that the motherboard doesn't like it (and there's no options to upgrade the BIOS), you can recover from the situtation with a cheap PCI ATA133 IDE controller.

Don't change these.
