Subject pretty much says it all. I just finished building this thing, I power on, my various fans spin up, the DVD flashes listlessly for a bit, then I get the dreaded beeeeeeep-beep-beep indicating that the BIOS has failed to communicate with the video card.
Monitor connects to video card through a old-fasioned-monitor to flat-screen-monitor converter (I don't know the names of either interface).
PSU has a 20 pin output, but the motherboard wants 24 pins so there's a converter on that too.
Help please :(

Are you sure the POST beeps are alerting you to the video card? Check the manual, or Google for "POST codes" and the manufacturer of your BIOS, and check that the codes really do mean that. I'm a bit worried about the fact that your PSU doesn't have the supplementary CPU power connector. That additional power coupling is supposed to come out separately from the PSU because the lines on the standard ATX connector can't supply enough power on their own - a splitter adapter won't magically allow more power down those lines, and you've got one power-hungry CPU right there. How come you ended up with an old-style ATX PSU in this day and age anyway? Did you just re-use one you already had, or is your dealer foisting crappy obsoleted parts on you?

I've googled. I don't carry around bios codes in my head :P
The motherboard has one 24 pin power input and a seperate 4 pin power for the CPU. I believe I saw somewhere the extra 4 pins on the motherboard is something to do with SLI but I don't really get it because my mobo isn't SLI capable. According to the motherboard I can actually connect a 20 pin plug to the 24 pin socket and just ignore the extra pins, rather than using a converter - in fact I should try that tonight.
The PSU came with the case.

(Update: no, removing the 20->24 converter didn't help)

Get yourself a fucking decent powersupply that's fucking 24 pins with the CPU 4pin, god damn stupid peoples houldn't build pc's.

Thanks for your, uh, helpful comments. Are you sure it's the PSU? I don't want to have to pay for more shipping if it's going to be a waste.
Thing is, I assumed that since they are selling those converters they would actually work. If that is not in fact the case I've got me some complaining to be doing.

Durrrrrr. The one leading to the CPU isn't the 4 pins you take off of the 20 pin. IT IS IT'S OWN. You do realize most PSU's you get with cases suck ass? http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16817104155
Get that one. That's the one I have. Take a look at the pictures. See that? There's a 24 pin for the motherboard, then a separate 4 pin for POWER TO THE CPU.
Now you know!

Really expensive stuff from American websites aren't much use to me, thanks anyway.
I never mentioned any relation between the 20 pin output and the 4 pin CPU output, I don't understand the cause for your "Durrrrrr"

You're obviously retarded and don't know what the fuck you're talking about. Please throw away your computer and never go on the internet again.
Also, it's not "Really expensive" from "American websites". Newegg is one of THE best well known for cheaper prices. And you also get what you pay for usually with technology, so stfu and live with your fucking problem or take my god damn advice.

It's a device for providing electricity to my computer. I'm not throwing away $100 on that. It looks pretty American to me, I don't see how you can deny that, and I'm not about to pay international shipping rates.

Uh.. device for providing electricity = very important. You don't want to use some shitty old supply that is unstable and noisy that fucks with the rest of your components. If you don't want to spend $100 on a power supply, then you might be buying a new computer in a few months after your current supply damages everything.

Oh, by the way. Did you even bother plugging in the D-Bracket 2? Those four little LEDs are helpfull. But I suppose an computer illiterate like you wouldn't know that.
Because of stupid people like you. You don't know what the fuck your motherboard package should have contained when you bought it, even though it's right on the back of the box.

A piece of metal with some leds didn't seem terribly important at the time, and I figured they'd try to rip me off for more shipping if I asked them to send me one.

Oh I already did post something helpful. A ton of helpful things. But YOU just refuse to TAKE MY GOD DAMN ADVICE.

The D-bracket contains LEDs that will hint you on what's wrong with your shit. Read the code from the LEDs and look in your manual.
Also, a good powersupply is important to a good computer. Sure people have gotten by on shitty PSUs before but if your thrown in PSU ever fails and takes all your hardware with it, all I can say is enjoy the good times.
As for your post code, try googling for "post code *" where * = the bios your board uses. Like Phoenix, AMI, Award, etc.
Another thing, a 24 pin ATX plug isn't necessary to run your computer. Right now I'm using my old Antec True 480w (20 pin) on an Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe, 4x300GB SATA drives, DVD±RW, X800 XL, A64 3000+ (oced from 1.8ghz to 2.53ghz), two 120mm fans, and an 80mm fan.

Thanks. From the manual I didn't think lack of a 24 pin PSU should be a showstopper. I guess I'll phone Scam^Hn tomorrow and ask them for the D-bracket they owe me.
You fucking retard. I have an Antec TruePower 480W and they are a good PSU brand and they only have 20pins and my computer works fine.
In reply to thread starter, check to make sure your RAM is in the right slots. You can usually tell which slots are correct because they are colour coded. Never put RAM in different coloured slots.
