DVD Rips - Almost there but not quite

Name: ippy 2005-05-04 1:51

Hello everyone :> I got some wonderful tips before on this, and using DVD Decrypter, DGI Index, VFAPI codec and Virtual Dub, I've gotten a movie ripped, synced with sound just perfectly and ready to be converted to a .avi, all smoothly and sweetly, but heres the problem:
I just need a clip of this movie (A Clockwork Orange) for a project in my Intro to Cinema class (thank you for your help in my previous thread!) and I am going to be putting the clip into a Powerpoint presentation, and this is where it gets tricky.
Because it is a Powerpoint, it wants an AVI and I don't know what codec to use to make sure it works properly in the AVI format, and I don't feel quite like trying a hundred different ones if I can get a quick straight answer.

Using Virtual Dub, what codec should I compress the movie file into so I can play it in Powerpoint? Do I even need a codec? I'm using a DVD-R for my presentation so size isn't too much of an issue, but any feedback would be absolutely lovely.

Thank you in advance :>

Unless the computers (and DVD drives) you're watching it on are really fucking fast, you'll need a codec. If you're not sure, MJPEG is usually a good wager. Good luck finding a free codec, though.
Just FYI, VFAPI is gay and you should be using avisynth to frameserve.

Don't change these.
