Apple Bashing

Name: PC user 2005-04-30 0:17

I went to an Apple store today for their sudden release of OS X Tiger (amazing how many releases that operating system has needed lately). And being a PC user, I had to deal with a bunch of egotistical Apple users jizzing on each other over the Macs, and compensating for their small penis size by boasting about how their computers are the computers of the gods. And basically running around with grins on their faces like they're on crack or something.

Since Mac users can't hold a conversation without bashing PC users at least once a minute, I wonder if there's ways PC users can bash Macs.

This thread is for Mac bashing.

I'll start out with the shit known as iTunes. Any song you download from iTunes can only be used on a iPod, all other media players (including your beloved PSP) won't play them. So Jobs is bascially forcing you to suck his cock and buy an iPod.

Macs are too easy to use, if I spend that much money on my computer then I should be spending much more time with it than simply doing a task and moving on. Also, they need a wider variety of colors.

So you like your outdated windows, which doesn't get new features every year or so? And let the bashing/flaming begin!

one button is all ANYONE should ever need!

My thing about mac's is that most of the users are into computers enough to want to "check out that internet" but not enough to spend time to know how to spend their money properly. They just want a computer that is simple, works, won't require much knowledge to maintain. They just want...a computer o.o They have money and mac has a powerful advertising campaign/sleek look.
It's stupid for anyone to say MAC SUCK, OSX IS GAY. For the fact you could in fact run linux or something else on it.
Mac users are equally stupid in bashing pc users, many of them think people only run windows on pc hardware. Not true in anyway.
You can run an alternate operating system on mac hardware, but you would never seek out mac hardware to do so....not if you are an educated consumer who knows how to get more for your money.
A pc with equal performance to mac hardware is ALWAYS cheaper.
That's the determining factor towards me favoring pc hardware. Of course if some guy was walking down the street and said "Hey, take this fucking expensive glossy mac hardware" I'd take it, but I'm a little to experienced with how I spend my money.

1- There is no such thing as a PC user. You have *BSD lovers (they're usually OK to talk to and have a good knowledge of their system), Windows fanboys (and I don't understand how you can love Windows, I had so much problems with it I changed to a Mac), Gentoo fanboys (who can be the worst kind of all, even more annoying than those "gay Mac users" everyone talks about) and the list goes on forever (especially those crazy BeOS lovers, with their dead system ;)

2- No one forces you to buy stuff on the iTunes store. In fact, I don't even understand how someone can buy a "file." I only buy CDs, rip them and transfer them: you'll never have problems this way. The second problem with iTunes is the mp3 format: it sucks and everyone should switch at least to Vorbis (or Flac if you've got a big disk, but I don't), you'll hear the difference very quickly.
If you were talking about iTunes "the program", I agree that it sucks ass, you can't even drop a folder without iTunes "processing the files" (whatever that means) or randomizing the files of the playlists. WinAmp or XMMS are less bloated and serve their purpose: listen to music while iTunes has been written to be a front-end to the store.

I know you're joking but there is a real difference with other "GUIs philosophies." If you write a Mac application and respect the "One Button" idea, your program will be simpler to use and the interface less bloated (this is what I experienced, feel free to criticize). Mac programs are meant to be used not only with one button but: with one click too! Every task is done faster. Of course bash scripting is the "best thing in the world" because it can be modified and tuned to your needs but most people don't even know what an xterm is...

I bought my first mac (a mac mini) a month ago because I needed something that would work right out of the box, it was a real emergency for me (I'm serious) I didn't had the time to worry about what components to get and what distro to choose (even if I would have chosen Slackware) I don't regret it now because it has most tools I needed (the standard GNU set compiled for the G4)

Apple fanboys are stupid to bash PC users BUT half of all the Mac owners I know have at least 3 computers where one is a powerful (and highly optimized) Linux server. Mac OS X is just another *NIX now with a beautiful look-and-feel on top of it.

gentoo fanboys are teh most ghey.

Kudos to >>5 and >>6 for not sinking to the level of >>1

I can understand >>1 's frustration here though. I don't want anyone to judge me based on what operating system I use, what computer I run it on, and what I use it for (within reason). If it rocks my boat, if it makes me work efficiently, and you STILL feel the need to tell me how to think, well fuck you. This goes for BSD, linux, windows and OS X users alike. EVERY fucking OS and proc architecture has its deal of fanboys and idiots. It also has its dealio of people who know why they chose that particular OS.

I use OS X because, for academic work that needs a non-intrusive interface and occasional command line work, I find that this is the perfect solution and is worth the cost. However I am aware of the superiority of other open-source *NIX flavors for coding and compiling work (not only more powerful, but a shitload lot cheaper), and the compatibility Windows offers for things such as games (wouldn't want to run Doom 3 on a G5, wouldn't know how to run it on Linux).

Let's face it, all OS's have their advantages, their purposes, and their flaws. Can't we just accept that, respect each other's choices, and fucking move on? Threads like this make you no better than the idiots you ran into, >>1

I think the point was to figure out some kind of counter-ammo to bash Mac users who seem to have plenty of ammo to bash Windows users. Shit like "How do you like your spyware?" "I need no additional video card!" "My computer crashes less than yours." ect.

The Mac users especially seem to have plenty of ways of making PCs and their users look bad, and the PC users have nothing since Macs seem perfect. Is there anything bad about macs?

Mac user here.
The video cards as shipped are rather lackluster and on some models can't be upgraded.  Odd given Mac prominence in graphics and design.

"How do you like your brushed metal?"

Some Mac users love the brushed metal interface but many hate it with a passion. So while this is no sure-kill it may still strike a nerve.

For example, the user interface doesn't have features like multiple desktops or "focus following the mouse." I'm a new Mac user so I'll try to make a list of what I hate on the system...

The thing I LOVE on my Mac is the Dock: instead of having a cluttered Task Bar with thousand of programs loaded inside, there is just one icon for each program and those programs are just loaded once. This is a feature I'd like to see in other GUIs.

I hate the brushed-metal interface. It looks awful to me especially when some programs don't use it at all (I wonder why...)

The one thing PC users can do that Mac users cant? Right click. Fuckin WIN.

Name: Edward 2005-05-03 4:21

>>14
Well actually, if you plug in any bluetooth, wireless, or wired mouse that supports plug and play, you can.

You see the thing is OS X's interface was designed to be simple enough for you to never need more than one button. Most things can be done through click and drag.

I have an adaptator to plug my old PS/2 mouse (with 3 buttons) in my keyboard, every button works in the system.

STFU about the 1 button mice.  Other mice are supported, and no true geek uses the mouse that comes with his computer.
