remote computing software

Name: Anonymous 2005-04-15 22:53

Was going to post things in /g/ but eh...

I see alot of people with alot of computers lying around, and alot of the time they are all in use without having a display for them all.

I'm just looking for suggestions on software that I can use to remotely use computers over a network, perferably with a desktop view. Really the freature built into XP is no good for me, I use computers running all kinds of windows. I know of some, but I am interested in knowing what people actulay use.

RealVNC. I love it.

I use ssh ALL the time. I play music stored on my desktop off of its speakers from my laptop, etc. You can also foreward X through ssh, so remote graphical apps can be run. This only works under Unix (Linux) though. There is a nice windows client called putty, so you could put a unix on your server and connect to it from a windows box.

I did not know this. I'll have to try it.

I have admin to a friend's IIS server. I use rdesktop for that, works well enough.

Because there aren't many choices.

If you want desktop you have the choice of Remote Desktop (windows), X (*nix), and VNC. If you want CLI you have SSH and telnet, both *nix.

Oh, there's also Citrix.

Don't change these.
