Windows booting up with no systray.(Need help

My mother just booted up her computer and upon the startup, her wallpaper comes up and nothing else. No applications, no systray, no anything, just the wallpaper. Nothing loads up at all. The processes seem normal, kind of. I'm not too positive what to look for. She told me a bunch of bullshit like "I don't think I have any space left" or "I moved around stuff to make space". There should have been warning before you do that, and I'm not sure that would produce such a problem. Anyways...Any solutions? Thanks.

I think I figured out the problem. She wasn't kidding about not having any space left. I booted up in safe mode and lo and behold,  50 megs left on her HD. Going to clean it up later and see what happens. >_>;

Sounds about right. If there's not enough space for the swapfile, bad stuff starts a-happening. Time to clean out the temp and cache directories.

but wouldn't your mother have had windows screaming at her that her disk was nearly full? At least for a time beforhand?

People like that are quite capable of ignoring dire warning messages. I've known people who have calmly dragged multiple error messages off the screen because they were getting in the way and then claimed their computer hates them when they crashed and lost all their work. I guarantee it.

Like people who ignore the oil light in their car and are then surprised when the engine seizes rock solid.

If she was running Win ME, she probably didn't get the warning.  I had this problem once and had to reformat, but I could have screwed something else up in ME, it wasn't that hard to screw it up or crash it.
