I installed it on my debian system along side my xfree86 install. It seems that it starts, kde loads for a few seconds, then crashes. What's left is some errors about mime types. I'm wondering if it could be that I put "exec startkde" instead of the ssh-agent one, since the ssh-agent one didnt work, due to kdm not being found. Any help would be great.

Out of curiosity, why did you install it alongside xfree86?

I didn't want to screw my install up, and thank god I did, since the artifacting is awful.

What do you mean by "artifacting"?

Artifacts are parts of programs left in the screen buffer that should have been released/delete. Imagine your desktop filled with parts/pieces of a program closed just a few seconds ago. You might be familiar with it when you have a corrupt avi tha seems to play, parts of the video start mixing together.

How odd. I have 6.8.1 running, and I haven't seen anything like that. Best of luck fixing it, although I wouldn't be surprised if the issue is caused by two installations of X.

Maybe, I tried one of those slackware cds to test it out, it had 6.8.1 and that worked fine, but .2 seems to be troublesome. I wasn't really planning on using it all the time, but I just wanted to see how well my pc worked with the eye candy and such.
