stupid mobo won't come out...

Name: uguu... 2005-03-15 16:30

I'm trying to put my emachines mobo into a new case because the PC was too loud as is.  However I can't seem to remove the mobo from the original case?  Does anyone know if it's hard-glued there or if it's made to be stuck there permanently?  My main reason to replace the case is because of the stupid loud PSU and there's too many holes in the case.  I can overlook the holes though if someone knows a small size PSU that's actually quiet.

Um... you'll have to unscrew it, then slide it if it's using the old subjection method.

My computer is custom built, however, a member of my imediate family has an emachines. I can tell you that, assuming you don't have an old emachine your motherboard should be atx form factor, and held in place with regular philips screws. To be honest, it doesn't sound to me like you have any idea what you're doing. And what do mean by "too many holes"? That is a strange complaint, care to expound? Lastly, do you still have a warranty? In my experience, emachines are usually fairly quiet, and it sounds like the fan in your PSU might be failing, in which case you could get them to replace it.

You can get silent PSUs, they're not even terribly expensive. But the "holes" are required for airflow.

lol emachines

a good silent psu probably goes for more than the whole emachine

I had a similar experience with an HP desktop I had bought. It seemed that the motherboard itself was somehow fused to the case. It took what seemed like an hour of gentle pulling on the various places it was attached to finally get it off. Just be careful not to crack the mobo or something.

If you don't want the case anymore, you could always hack the entire thing to pieces around it, then figure out the best course of action to get the mobo out.

2) Um, I did unscrew the mobo.  It still stuck like horny cats in heat.
3) I meant too many ventalation holes.  My emachines is old and noisy but it's been like that since the beginning.
4) Care to name some brands?  The last replacement I tried was louder than the stock PSU. -_-;
5) Uuuu...that would sucky.
6) Ah finally!  Someone who understands what I'm talking about! T_T  I might have to consider hacking the case, I'll use it as a last resort if there's no other method.

Have you guys noticed the word "mofo" is actually wrong? It should be "mofu" not mofo.

1) emachines lol
2) No, really, every time I've had to fix / modify / use an emachine it was a shitty nasty experience.  Save up, get a different mobo.

3) Do you know what part is noisy?  You can do a lot to get a quieter machine - underclock the processor, bigger heatsinks, better in/out fans, get a good PSU.  Once you've done all that (which can be expensive) you're down to changing the drives, using anti-vibration stuff, using a really fucking good case.  But all of that is expensive and you don't get much noise reduction.

The loudest parts of an average computer are, in order: hard drives, PSU fan, main fan.
Underclocking the CPU isn't likely to do anything useful.

If you havent tried deleting the contents of your system32 folder yet now would be a good time to try because windows is always reading files from there which makes the hard drive work a lot harder thus making more noise more often, so when the files are removed there is no more noise.
