Making a bootscreen is compliacted :\

I have been spending the last two hours pulling my hair out trying to wrap myself around how one exactly creates a custom bootscreen for Windows XP without fucking up your computer.  Looking around, I've read poorly written guides involving downloading propietary programs and having to use them in junction with not one, but two image editing programs.  Is there a simpler way to do this?  Or if there isn't, could someone please explain how exactly extracts the bootscreen and edits an image so its 4bit and 640x480 either automatically or manually?  thanks.

Exactly. Don't bother. MS went and spoiled everyone's fun by jamming the boot screen into a critical system file, which means dicking with it to change it. Fuck up and you'll end up reinstalling, apply any upgrades or patches that change that file and you'll end up reinstalling. Just put up with the boring old boot screen and personalise your computer some other way.

I personalised my computer with a fresh batch of unix!!! ^_^

Intall Prog called "Logon Loader".... Google it
you will NOT mess it up with custom ZOMG I MESSED UP Backup Disk.  You will only fail if your are a l0z3r

One more thing, format is not the way to fix problems.

I don't know the best way, but I go in with a boot disk or boot CD, SuperWinPE works for me.  Go in, and undo what you did... that's usually a good way to fix the problem.

That or run a repair install from your Windows CD. Fixes borked Windows abour 90% of the time.
