high pitch noise from HD after reformat

Name: Anonymous 2005-02-27 21:28

Im not sure where to find a good tech support page so i guess i will just ask 4ch. Anyways, I just reformatted my computer today, but now the HD is making this high pitch humming noise which is getting really annoying. I dont think it made any noise as big as this before. (i know its from the HD and not the fans, i opened the case and the noise is coming directly from it). what can i do to reduce this ghey noise?

goto ur drive manufacturers webpage, download their disk diagnostic program.... run it off a bootdisk, check ur drive for error codes

if it returns no error codes, kick it a few times

Shit man, that disk is screaming for its SMART health. BACKUP EVERYTHING IMPORTANT *NOW*, then get a SMRAT utility and see it for yourself, but be prepared to buy a new one.

It might not be screwed in tightly enough. Try tightening it upa bit and put the case back on, see if that makes a difference.

Is it an electronical sound? If so it means that it has corrupted sectors. My Maxtor did that.

Don't change these.
