okay, so i just downloaded a shitload of fonts, and some of them are in .bin format. so are they mac or what?

mac would probably be dmg, bin is linux

No, Mac fonts would probably be .dfont or .ttf, though the Mac accepts more font types than that.

Possibly they are in MacBinary format. Poke at them with Stuffit Expander and see if they decode and open.
Are most of your fonts TTF, OTF, or some other common format? Could be that you ended up with some weird crufty ones. You might try opening them with FontForge to see if it recognizes them.
