Best Laptops?

Name: Anonymous 2005-01-24 1:59

I'm thinking of buying a new Laptop but I cant decide where to get it from.
I'm thinking Gateway because of all types of laptops (and desktops) of used before Gateways have been pretty useful, cheap with alot of memory and most useful accessories added (especially the video cards).

...but then again I haven't been on that many wide variety laptops.

anyone recommend one to me?

Dell... No seriously.  Dell's Desktops might suck, but their laptops are great.

You could also just get the barebone and add your own CPU and shit.

if you want something that looks good, get a sony. if you want something cheap or 64 bit, get an hp. if you want a big e-penis, get an alienware.

Depends mostly on what you want to do with this laptop. If you're looking for entry level computing, go with Dell. If you're looking at gaming, look at a clevo distributor.

I currently use a Sager 9860, which is the equivalent to the Alienware 7700M.
While this makes even the most graphically intensive games seem like solitaire, not everyone needs a machine this powerful, or as expensive.

Basic notes:If you buy anything from Dell, get it with bare minimum RAM. Dell overprices their RAM on obscene scales.

Pentium M's, despite their low clock speeds, perform extremely well for gaming, and provide excellent battery life. Don't let the clock speeds blind you. These are pretty damn fast.

If you're looking for advice on laptops, I reccomend checking out www.notebookforums.com as this is where I get most of my laptop info from. Ask around and you may find yourself with a system that suits your needs well without taking a chunk out of your pocket. Or you may find one that suits your needs and vastly outdoes them, costs a lot, but is well worth every penny

Most importantly, it depends on your needs.

My niece has a high-end HP she got free from a program run by the NSF.  Seems to be a quality machine hardware-wise and that's no faint praise commin' from me, an iLemming.

Try out the laptops of everyone you know who has one.  Try at least one Powerbook, even if you have to go to a Mac store to play with it.  They are expensive,  Very expensive, but it will give you a standard for comparision

I dont know if this is the right place to post, but if you want a laptop you can go to this site: http://www.power2source.com/index.php?ref_id=4891
The only laptop they have there is a Sony Vaio. Plus, you will be helping me get the laptop I ordered faster too. It only costs 40$. I know Sony Vaio laptops are not very good but Im the cheap kind of guy so 40$ was quite the offer for me.
