A proposal:
1. A refuge from the "Mac's Suxs/Mac'sRule" drivel. My wish would be that "Devil's Advocate" (reasoned polite non-personal) trolls be welcomed. We're used to it, and it lends dynamics to the discourse.
2. Discuss hardware, software, new and old.
3. Mac specific problems with this site. We can't expect the mods 'n gods to do any more than the excellent new "standards compliance" here.
4. Macs in anime/manga.
5. Other (Mac).
I said thread rather than board because I have no clue as to the interest here.

Anyone know of a way to FUCKING TURN OFF that non-linear acceleration curve on the mouse in OSX?

Install 3rd party drivers, like USB Overdrive.

Anyone know of a way to FUCKING TURN OFF that non-linear acceleration curve on the mouse in OSX without resorting to payware I can't pay for anyway?
(The accel data table is stored as base64-encoded binary data in a plist file somewhere I once found, ... what's the correct way to hack that?)

4<< ...and yes, I've tried using "Property List Editor", which doesn't know anything about what strctured format the raw data is in..

That non-linear acceleration is supposed to be a Good Thing. An effort to counter Fitts Law.
Why doesn't it work for you.
No, I couldn't find anything about it... Google wasn't your friend today... :(

Fitts Law my Shiny Metal Ass :P ... Non-linear acceleration makes controlling the mouse a less reflexive action, and the 'mental preparation' that forces you to think about how fast the mouse is being moved wastes time (it's like trying to type by looking at the keyboard each time to find where the keys are..)

But... but... that's how I type! Really. Never learned how to touch-type. Used to drive the secretaries at work mad.
But I think I have fewer typos 'cos I have to read everything I type when I finish typing.

This is OT, but I grew up typing with two index fingers and using the CAPS LOCK key for every single capital letter. I can stil type insanely fast.

Well I use Macs, except for those rare occasions where I want to play a game.
I love Mac OS X. Goddam, all the Windows OSs look ugly by comparison.

name three of your (mac exclusive) favorite applications. Mine are coda, cleanmymac and vox. My most hated ones i still use are safari, itunes and aperture. Those are buggy and have many design flaws (at least from a perspective of software engineering student).

Don't you play games in osx? Blizzard for example makes all their games osx compatible.

I've been using mac for the past couple of months as it is the only computer I've been able to get ahold of. One thing that's great in comparison of Windows definitely is getting used to the OS. Windows is kind of like linux in the sense that in order to get your head around it you need to spend a lot of time. In comparison to OSX, it sort of is a hobby OS.
However, as a gamer I cannot get around the fact that next to no games are compatible with it. Yes it's true as >>13 said, Blizzard makes their games compatible, lots of others don't. However I suppose the obvious answer to that is simply to bootcamp to W7 if it's such a problem.
P.S. They need to revamp the gpu in the mbp, but other than that a great system if you have the money for it.

What about Aspyr? They make good ports of popular games to OS X. And Steam supports OS X now too. I'd say there are games for OS X but people don't care about them.

there are not many games in steam available for the mac yet. Not for another half year or so, people are not going to waste time porting their games to it, only games that will be aimed for the mac from the start will show up on the mac portion of the store.
