I mean American animation has loads of great work, LOADS. Even European animation has many greats. Sure we may not talk much about it here since we're more about sakuga and anime but I think most people acknowledge their worth.

Well, the fewer lines there in one sheet to another then the easier it is for the animator to ease their workload. But I think the excessive detailed character designs in some newer TV anime shows has forced animators to really put the "2nd Key Animation" job into full power. 1st KA's will do the layout and rough poses then the 2ndKA animator will come along and fill in all the other details such as the clothing and accessories. Only then will it be passed on over to be inbetweened.
