I no real order or ranking but:
Yutaka Nakamura
Yoshinori Kanada
Masahio Yamashita
Masami Obari
Hiroyuki Imaishi
Mitsuo Iso
Norio Matsumoto
Takeshi Koike
You Yoshinari

I think I tend to lean towards the Kanada side of animators more than the real side.

>>39
Heck nothing from the Kanada family is allowed above A. Heck even Kanada himself is not on there. He should atleast be an A+ or an S-

This is why I don't like this ranking list. It misses out too many people and uses one person's criteria and judgement of what they think is the best order.

Utsumi and Nishiya correctly guessed. Jackpot, ladies and gentlemen.

Name: Anonymous 2013-03-06 23:36

Why exactly is Do a separate studio?

Is it just a matter of organization or are there plans for them to head in a different direction in the future?

Name: Anonymous 2013-03-06 23:56

>>55

Who knows.

As it stands they're KyoAni's sister company.

Name: Anonymous 2013-03-07 0:14

>>55
It probably has to do with space and location. They could have been called "Kyoani Osaka" but it would be kind of ridiculous considering the main studio's name.

Name: Anonymous 2013-03-07 0:26

>>57
Yeah, it's probably easier for those who doesn't live in Kyoto to work at Animation Do (Yamakan, for example).

The fuck? Are you me?

Name: Anonymous 2013-03-07 3:38

If we're still bothering with that ranking/trolling, I think we also need a list with storyboarder/director tiers.

A very interesting read.
Some of these ideas can be extrapolated for Japanese animation as well.

Good article. Disney sure loves their realist animation, it even shows in their CGI animated features today.

As much as I admire realist animation, I think the best kind is movement that is somewhat realistic, yet with a dash of stylization. There's both the illusion of life and taking advantage of the freedom that animation allows in one go.

It shows the different number on the search page.
Don't know why.

Obari singing
oh god, I thought this was going to sound horrible but it's actually kinda alright

clearly he needs bumping up a rank or two for being able to sing

Name: Anonymous 2013-03-07 7:02

>>65

Kinda like Yoh Yoshinari or Yutapon?

Name: Anonymous 2013-03-07 7:46

>>71
I guess, I mean it various alot under that definition. Yutapon and Otonari both have realism backgrounds and can apply distortions to deliver their stylish animation. Then you have someone like Bari who has they hyper-realism inspired by Anno/Itano yet applies that Kanada/Yamashita modulation. The Anon probably meant more the former but something like the latter can probably also be considered.

Name: Anonymous 2013-03-07 8:11

>>71
Yes, I was thinking of the likes of Yoshinari and Yutapon. I think Tetsuya Takeuchi's approach to animation counts as well.

hyper-realism inspired by Anno/Itano

Care to explain?

NS #303

AD: Masayuki Kouda
Asst. AD: Horikoshi Kumiko
Hiroyuki Yamashita and Kazunori Mizuno KA

Some nice action animation, but some of the drawings looked unpolished. I expected better from a Kouda episode.
