Oh, shuffles.

This morning I was flipping through my copy of Conan Volume 2: The God in the Bowl, and I heard this crack. I flipped through again, and saw that a fifth of the book had separated from the binding and was just barely hanging on.

This made me sad, since I less-than-three my books quite a bit. In fact, I never even fully open most of them for fear of damaging the binding in situations like this.

What does /carcom/ suggest in this situation?

There aren't many bookbinders around anymore.  Check with your local library system and see how THEY get their books repaired.  If they can't help you, then check with the library at the closest, larger university library.
