Thinking of starting a comic book career.

I'm currently thinking about getting into a career in comics. I want to write, draw, and ink all of my own comics. I have a certain style that I want to stick to, and I don't know if giving it off to another artist is exactly the best idea.

I wanna know whats other people's thoughts about this. Like, is it a bad idea to even think about going into comics?

Any real life experiences?

No one's stopping you on doing that now.  To have a career, you have to first get in the doors.  If you're not already passing out freebies of your comic to get a fanbase, you're stuck no where.

Get the word out, don't be afraid to ask for critiques, dunno what else right now. (fecking tired, I hate being the on call tech..)

Dunno if this works or not, random thoughts of putting a few pages on the web too. May help get more work out.

just do it for the sheer joy of doing it, don't expect to ever make any money. What sort of comic? what sort of style?

Really, the only comic people read anymore is porn.

Graphic novels have their niche. Every book store has at least a small shelf devoted to them before the multitudes of manga (heh, alliteration...).
Even the people that are too cool to read comics like the stories. See: V for Vendetta, 300, Sin City, all of the super hero movies, etc...

I think it might be a little hard to get a foothold nowadays in graphic novels however. You'd probably be better of making a webcomic...
