the important difference isnt the art style, but the plot style. american cartoons tend to be 1 episode stories, while animu stretches over long periods, allowing for massive plot detail and character developement. american cartoons try to do this in a "short adventure" styling, wile animu doesnt.

The business people prefer single episode stories because they think new viewers will join in the middle of a season, while long story arcs are perceived to discourage new viewers. (This is also why American television translations of Anime often include excessive explanation, so that new viewers can start watching at any episode and catch up quickly.)

But, when there’s less executive-pressure, American writers are just as likely as Japanese to write long stories. For example, most of the classic American radio plays were long serial stories, and all sorts of modern American comic books and comic strips are serial.
