What if CN made something of high quality?

Name: Anonymous 2005-12-09 23:28

Y'know, just for once.  Actually using the money they make to produce something with quality animation, voice acting, and story.  Even something serious/dramatic.  I don't consider Clone Wars high quality either, more like Samurai Jack with a Battlefront mod.

quality is subjective. samurai jack and clone wars both cost a lot of money, and it shows. the boondocks probably costs some money; there's usually a single really well animated bit per episode.

if you're talking about CN doing stuff along the lines of high budget anime, and you're dismissing tartakovsky's stuff, it sounds to me like you just want something that looks more like anime.

And there are shows that look like anime, sound like poorly dubbed anime, even have the same convoluted plotlines as anime. But if you're looking for the American (or even French) equivilant of Cowboy Bebop or a Studio Ghibli film... Well, don't bother. Cartoons aren't as popular here as they are in Japan, and there isn't a large enough market for dramatic and serious cartoons anyway.
If it ain't gonna be profitable, then it ain't gonna be produced. Why do you think all of Adult Swim's original shows are mostly stupid humor aimed at stoners?

Where's The Essence of Bluth when you need him?

it'll be cool. indeed.

>I don't consider Clone Wars high quality either, more like Samurai Jack with a Battlefront mod.

Jesus, man, I truly laughed out loud. That is the best description I've ever heard.

They tried that with Big O and the new He-Man. It was met with reasonable success, but then some jealous network exec came along and WRYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYowned it. Stop motion derivative parody with no character development or storyline is a lot cheaper to produce and gets reasonable ratings, and because of this the profit margin is higher than a well funded animation project would be, anime or otherwise.

except that Big O was Batman with Giant Robots (and an extremely nonsensical, plot-hole riddled story tacked on for style), and the new He-Man was, well, a remake.

the problem is as >>3 said, serious, mature animation doesn't sell well in the U.S. (gotta remember that alot of anime fans are wapanese fags).

Big O was apocalyptic giant robot battles + emotionless robot girl romantic interest for the protagonist, who is more than she seems + a series ending with bizarre philosophical weirdness rather than anything coherent.

Remind you of anything?  It was done by the same production team that did the Batman animated series, but I'm talking about the writing.

'Cause it's cheaper to import something with substance than to make it.

Actually I think Jack and the Clone Wars were quite decent and obtaining the right to make a STAR WARS related cartoon probably cost tons of money fo CN so by no means were they low-budget projects.

That aside I can echo what has been said by >>10 CHEAPER TO BUY THAN MAKE!!!

Why do you think CN bough 3rd grade animes like Bedaman, Duel Masters, Transformers Armada/Energon/Cybertron? Or why do we keep seeing remakes over and over of the shit that was popular long ago like He-Man, Scooby-Doo?

Tartakowksy's work is also decent in my eyes because it has some character in the art altough the art is simple altough they are almost all parodies at such a level that it is isn't even funny, however his work must stay in line with CN's rules as the vast majority of viewers are kids and thus CN must show stricktly non-serious stuff or else parents will instantly sue and CN does not want that.

TV is a market driven media...

I have seen Boondocks, and it is the future.  May all US cartoons be as slick as that show.  The random samurai moments, for example.  What studio/production company makes this show, and where did it get the money to make it?  It can't all be from comic strip sales..

Well spoken. Intellectuals are in the midst.

The guys who did samurai champloo, sony studios, and mr McGruder himself are the masterminds behind Boondocks. More info can be found on the net, just google it. Even check anime forums.

the typical american animation just has a much higher budget. they can afford to do stuff like the samurai fight scenes.

>>14
the op is just an homage; mcgruder is an anime fan and he liked champloo. if you watch the credits, the animation staff is all korean.

that show suck balls you dumbass. It's a would-be parody of animes which tries to be funny and high quallity and repeatedly portarys famous shows as they were just trash.

Megas fails for being fucking stupid and not funny at all...

Megas is dead. Long dead. And it was replaced by... Krypto the Superdog.
Fuck this. If it weren't for Avatar and Billy and Mandy, I wouldn't watch either Nick or CN.

Megas was shit. At least it was smothered in Krypto shit, a deserving death

Name: Anonymous 2006-03-10 0:46

Megas = moronically wasted potential. I demand more giant robot parody, less of the rest of what made up those episodes!

Don't change these.
