There are plenty of US comic artists that draw in an almost ecchi style, with extra emphasis on sexuality in non-adult comics. Yet I rarely see high quality or detailed artwork in US adult comics. They tend to be more underground and independant, but I don't think it would discredit a mainstream artist to draw an occasional adult work.
In Japan, since adult comics are more mainstream, the art quality of adult manga and doujinshi is equal to or sometimes better than non-adult manga. For some reason US made adult comics seem to lack the same level as their mainstream comic counterparts, due to limited exposure and sales, or a wide selection of high quality artists willing to draw them. Most I've seen seem either amateur or overexaggerate everything to an absurd level of anatomy. I'd rather see characters who are drawn like normal high quality comic characters, but just happen to be naked or involved in sexual situations. This approach works great for Doujinshi if done right.
