I like Neil Gaiman. I've read all his works. Comics and books. Yes even the shitty ones.

While I love the world, he's created for Vertigo (I mmean really, he's defined the core structure and characters, no?), I'm afraid I'm going to have to say this:

"Neil Gaiman is a one trick pony."

There, I've said it.

All of his work seems to derive from the same idea, the same source. Its like he has only one good idea, which he constantly repackages into different shapes. Nonetheless, its still good.

I've always enjoyed his comics stuff, not so much his prose. He's a great storyteller (with both long-term plots and short stories) but his writing style is kind of choppy and uneven.

>"Neil Gaiman is a one trick pony."
Eh, you're probably right, although I love contemporized (pretend that's a word) religious/mythological lit so I'm not complaining.

^^ eh. now that you mention it...

Gaimans writing style seems to be tailored for graphic novels. Sorta like a screenplay for comics. So if you're reading his stuff, it'd appear kinda jumpy.

Ok so whats that one idea then, I'm curious

I've read allmost everything in the sandman series and the books asociated with it and the most recent book i read by him was Smoke and Mirrors. I can't really agree that he is a one trick pony, but if anyone says he should stay away from erotic novels in the future i have to agree with them ;]

Sandman volumes I-X are completely sweet.  There are a few dud stories, and some of the books are too short, but everything comes full circle by the end.

Except for Hell.  What happens to everyone that leaves Hell?

Didn't they all get rounded up and sent back after Remiel and Duma took over? I don't have my books with me but I do remember everyone returning at the end of Season of Mists.

they all got sent back once the angels took over.
If you liked the Sandman then you *MUST* read The Dreaming followed by the currently on-going Lucifer.

The Dreaming is (obviously) related to the sandman and tells a pretty interesting tale. The story in Lucifer does NOT directly involve the dreaming but takes place in its "universe" and *does* involve hell. Including remiel and duma (who finally speaks).

The 'Books of Magic' series only had like 4 comics written by Gaiman.

Don't change these.
