Personally, I'm digging the more artsy-fartsy webcomics. I mean, you know, manipulating sprites is fun. But all these keenspace heroes need to really stop thinking that they're doing anything remotely relevant anymore.

>>3 Agreed. PvP Is pretty stupid. On the whole I like a minority of webcomics, but the ones I like, I really really like. VG Cats, Penny Arcade, 8BT, Sluggy, Ozy and Millie, Life of Riiley, Sinfest, and Zebra Girl are all fantastic. Top notch.
Unfortunately, I had to wade through a horrifying torrent of horrifically bad comics to find there. I shouldn`t dump on them too much, they ARE trying at least. Not like I write comics myself but still. There are 4 main genres of comics I can`t stand.
#1 EMO.
#2 Estrogen-fueled comics all about relationships where the girls / gay guys are inexplicably always right.
#3 Comics that are laced with nothing but inside jokes.
#4 Comics that are blatent rip-offs of animes that weren`t even that good to begin with.
And there are a LOT of them.

I've never been a fan of megatokyo. the art style is pretty awful and not pleasing to the eyes at all. the only webcomics i rather enjoy are sh*thouse(just because it's so random) and penny arcade. most other things are dull.

I got tired of 8-Bit Theater after a while, but if it's true that the author is making a living from it, my hat is off to him.
Likewise, I thought Adventurers! was somewhat enjoyable despite the relatively poor art quality, until the jokes started getting heavily overused. Five comics a week is all well and good, but "lol RPGs are unrealistic" gets dull after several hundred comics.
Megatokyo, I liked, but I haven't read it in quite some time, and not much seemed to actually happen in it.

Penny Arcade is no-where near as good as it used to be. Having obscure jokes that only make sense to people in the industry doesn't amuse your readership, it makes them pretend to find it funny whilst feeling leftout and stupid.
Oh, and Megatokyo? PROGRESS YOUR FUCKING STORYLINE! FUCK! It takes FOREVER for anything to happen in that comic. By the time you finish a storyline, I've forgotten how the fucker began.

There are only two good webcomics in the entire world:
I had assumed that PBF was published somewhere, and as such didn't count as a webcomic. In any case it's easily the best thing mentioned in this thread.

I dunno, VG Cats is pretty Good.
However I stop reading the web-comic when the creators and writers and all the people behind teh scenes turn into dick heads, they post there like "news letter" under the comic and it is just pure bullshit...it's like reading something of Michael Moores, it's just there to please and inform the morons that read it.
I mean there was this one megatokyo somone was showing me and it was funny I guess..and then I scrolled down to see an article called "Cool Stuff" About how the guy went out and bought all this "Cool Stuff" for himself. Oh and all that cool stuff was stupid ass mac products.
Fucking Fags.
Penny Arcade is not as good as it used to be, but some of the stuff they promote and do is pretty damn cool.
I Hope the age of webcomics dies and gives way to awsome stuff like Red Vs. Blue.

I like Badly Drawn Kitties ok, but aside from that and Sexy Losers, there's not much out there that I keep following. I find somethingok, read thru the archive, then can't seem to maintain an interest after that... It seems that most comics tend to work better in large batches (for me anyways) as it's easier to get "into the mindset". Or something. :p

For a unique webcomic, take a look at This Strife:
Most of the gags suck, but the way the comic is produced is unique, as it uses Duke Nukem 3D's engine to create the scenes, instead of placing random edited Megaman or Sonic sprites on backgrounds or drawing the thing and poorly coloring it in Photoshop. Personally, I'd like to do sometihng similar to it, but I'm not in the mood to figure out how the hell Mav makes the comics in the first place. :/

I know a lot of webcomics are crap, but they hold onto a very important place in the world: Independent Publishing. Marvel/DC are both controlled by Satan Himself, and Superheroes ruined american comics.
There is no room for people who actually love comics, and it hurts us deep within to see them atrophy into muscle bound vigilantes and Japan worshiping shitstains. We must carve out a home for ourselves from the charred corpses of Rob Liefeld and Stan Lee! Down with the Marvel/DC Fascist Corporate Dictatorships telling us what to read! Up with DAVE SIM and LUKA DELANEY, RANDY MILLHOLLAND and VERA BROSGOLL!

Cerberus, I just have to put this statement out. Superheros did not ruin American Comics. I am not fond of them myself, but they were the real actual start for the American Comic Industry. Before the release of Superman the only comics released were small books like "The Funnies" "They Yellow Kid" and "Katzenjammer Kids". That was pretty much it until Superman came along. I'd reccomend reading the book called: "Comic Book Nation" which is directly about how Comics evolved from the beginnings.
Sorry for the off-topicness. As for Webcomics, I think they're bad because they are indeed written by amateurs. The only good one I've really found was Sexy losers, which I thought was very funny.
Signed. One of the many good things about going to school in Amherst was BF in our campus paper, but i had pretty much forgotten about it until now. Now i can check it out again; thanks kindly.

Most webcomic artists are amateurs, true, but that doesn't mean they aren't skilled. Wait, lemme rephrase that- SOME of them, generally the more popular ones, are skilled. Some of them aren't even amateurs- Piro, Gabe and Tycho, Randy Mullholland and plenty of others make their entire living off webcomics. Just because they don't get printed out in a paper every day means nothing. Hell, PvP _does_ get printed in papers.
Webcomics are interesting because there is effectively zero barrier to entry- all you need is a pen and a scanner (or a pirated copy of Photoshop) and you're set to go. This means you get a wide variety, from the crappiest angsty scrawlings all the way on up to professional-quality stuff. It also allows more fringe-oriented (manga-style, sub/counter-culture, etc) comics to have a chance at gaining a reasonable following where they otherwise might not.
I won't even bother listing the comics I read because opinions vary so widely on what's "good" or not; I may not nescessarily enjoy all comics, but that doesn't mean I can't admit many of them have merit. The popularity of webcomics is only going to increase from here on out and if many more people start following Scott Kurz's example and offering themselves to newspapers we may see a lot more of them. The only thing stopping them right now is the fact that most of them _do_ focus quite a bit on a single subculture (geeks, gamers, otaku, college students, what-have-you), which hurts their overall popularity.

Whatever. Superheroes didn't ruin American comics. "Seduction of the Innocent", the US Senate, and finally the Comics Code of America (all ultimately fueled by the American attitude that comics/cartoons are for kids and the "but think of the CHILDREN" attitude *barfs*) ruined US comics.
There was a lot more variety in comics, including comics for adults, before that crap happened, and superheroes never hurt them one damn bit.

A lot of them I find are just... whatever. This one caught my eye, though.
Jack has insane amounts of comic-busting idiocy. Artist self-inserts himself as a "Godly" character (Is Satan in the first NIN tribute comic), long and excruciatingly drawn out "arcs" like Suffer and One Way To Win, POS artwork, though that's more a personal gripe, 1 or 1.5 dimensional characters, extremely stupid potty humour in the "outtake" comics, and of course a mob-like fanbase. This of course gives him a superiority complex where he thinks he's one of the greatest things to grace the internet.
If you want to jump straight to the worst of it, go through Games We Play In Hell. Oh yeah and one of the evil furries is a near carbon copy of Violater, but really pathetic and uncool.
Larf and cwy at the total misuse of Poser....not like any of its fans know how to actually use it anyway. This is outstanding mostly because you can see there's so MUCH work put into a vile putrid turd. Especially if you check out the forums, where she talks about how she does this stuff. (I forget where that is since I haven't been here for a month but the forum isn't too big anyway Should take all of 5 minutes to find it.)

MegaTokyo is just like your average David Gonterman comic except with slightly better art.
And speaking of PvP... Not only is it a hacky, stereotypical webcomic with a few minor gaming/scifi references to rope in the nerd demographic. But it's author is a shit-talking famewhore who has BEEN NOMINATED FOR AN EISNER!!! WTF!!?!?!

i hate badly drawn webcomics that are mainly talking heads or stick figures. when the text versus good art ratio favors lots of words I lose interest, even if it's clever or humorous writing. (sorry, this includes xcd or however you spell it) on a separate note, I also don't like gaming or gamer comics. penny arcade, ctrl alt delete, vg cats, looking for group, I'm sure there are other ones. those are just some that come to mind.

Captain Excelsior was pretty odd, but the art was ace.
KC Green's shit is so goddamn random that I hate it sometimes.

Oh and btw I don't think there's anything wrong with webcomics as long as you read real comics too. God, I am so cool sometimes that it hurts.
