It Depends
if you're looking at it from a literary standpoint - judging solely from the point of view of the content of the work - you can make a strong argument for it being both science fiction and horror. it certainly has the kind of content to mark it as speculative fiction. from the point of view of history and genre affiliation and marketing, though, it's neither, it's a gothic romance. Really, though, who cares what genre it is.
