I'm basically obsessed with him at this point. So help me order these books that're on my list to read next.

Right now I'm on Desperation, it's legit. <3 Afterwards, I have these to read, what order should I read them in, best to worst?

-Cujo
-Dreamcatcher
-Salem's Lot
-Insomnia
-It
-The Shining

Dreamcatcher
Salem's Lot
It
The Shining
Cujo
Insomnia.

But, that's just my opinion. Usually people see it as number 1 for being such a classic and even The Stand. The Shining, too. Eh, fuck it, they're all good.

I notice that I disagree entirely with >>4

My conclusion is that King is always fun, and you'll get a kick out of even his thoroughly mediocre works. I know I still did.

read the dark tower. most of his books tie into it. but get an old edition of the gunslinger, the lazy fucker took 30yrs to write the series, and he only finished it because of fan pressure, in reality, he only wanted to write books 1-4. so what he did (lazy, lazy lazy) was go to the publisher and have certain things omitted from book 1 so that he wouldn't have so many loose ends to tie up, thus permitting him to get away from the story quicker. king is one of the laziest writers ever (not that they're known for being a very hard-working lot)

The best King books, IMO, are the ones he wrote as Bachman: Rage, The Running Man and The Long Walk (Roadwork wasn't very good, unfortunately). His short story collections are also pretty entertaining: Skeleton Crew and Night Shift are good, but Nightmares & Dreamscapes I can only recommend about halfway. Of his "big" books: Carrie, The Shining, 'Salem's Lot and Pet Semetary are all pretty good. I'm reading Lisey's Story right now and it's shaping up all right.

King has somehow managed to write worse books the older he gets, with a few exceptions. I think his popularity has afforded him to get away with a lot more muddled prose and off-putting colloquilaisms than his editor should allow him to.
