Malazan Book of the Fallen

So I just finished Gardens of the Moon (recommended by this board about a month ago [thank you!]) and barely started Deadhouse Gates - Is this franchise a sequential series?

I really want it to be - the last fantasy series I read was the Sword of Truth series which wasn't really 'fantasy' as much as it was a story of the human condition set in a fantasy world...
And the Wheel of Time is so damn slow it's hard to read.

Somebody told me Twilight was about gay vampires.  Gay vampires are *not* awesome.  I did not read the books nor watch the movies.  I suggest you steer clear as well.
