Tennyson's In Memoriam #27

So, I need to write an essay on this.

****************************************
****************************************
I envy not in any moods
The captive void of noble rage,
The linnet born within the cage,
That never knew the summer woods:

I envy not the beast that takes
His license in the field of time,
Unfetter’d by the sense of crime,
To whom a conscience never wakes;

Nor, what may count itself as blest,
The heart that never plighted troth
But stagnates in the weeds of sloth;
Nor any want-begotten rest.

I hold it true, whate’er befall;
I feel it, when I sorrow most;
’Tis better to have loved and lost
Than never to have loved at all.
****************************************
****************************************

...And this is what I got out of my analysis. Any help?

Stanza 1:
He never wants to be like something locked up that has no “motivation” (like an animal bred in the wild will never act the same as an animal bred in captivity)

Stanza 2:
He doesn’t want to take out his anger of his losses on anything (like a wild animal would)

Stanza 3/4:
Then he says he would have rather loved someone and lost them than rather never have loved someone at all (he would rather have a special person in his life for however a short time than never have had them)

Don't change these.
