Is Hemingway overrated? I can barely finish The Sun Also Rises and his style is terrible. I understand the themes, the characters, what he is trying to say but there's barely a plot and even though people claim he gets to the point every chapter is filled with filler that doesn't matter to anything. One chapter had the characters going to out to eat 4.5 times! They even had breakfast twice. The .5 is because the chapter ended with them going to lunch but not eating anything yet.

Are his other books like this?

I'm Guessing you weren't paying much attention. Try llooking more closely for the Symbolism

Don't think I haven't. I know there's symbolism but it's portrayed horribly and his writing style isn't amazing in the least. Like I said, I know the messages and themes. The book is just generally unreadable and unfit to be called a masterpiece.

Of course I am aware this is subjective. I just like to hear other people's opinions. I know the filler was all part of the point and the lack of much of a plot was just icing on the cake.

A lot of his writing is boring, but none of it is stupid, as you seem to imply. Try reading Garden of Eden or Islands in the Stream. More stuff happens in the stories there, maybe you'll like them. 
For Whom the Bell Tolls is a bit longish, but it has some war scenes in it, and it's a very good depiction of the Spanish Civil War. I recommend this as well

I'm not claiming it's stupid, just awful and dragged out which definitely equates to boring. The way he expresses things is good if he does it right like in The Killers or The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber but those are short stories. I want to read a decent book of his and thankfully you have recommended some, thanks for those. I sincerely want my opinion of him to be changed because I have seen only a few good works of his and he has impressed me with those but never a book.

Maybe some more content in his books really is the only problem. I'll have fun figuring out with your recommendations.
