For me I think it was the best book ever written. Great and funny story, I really enjoyed reading it.

I did not like Catch 22. I know I'm in the minority but I'm not afraid to say I found the narrative silly and confusing. I read it right after I finished Gravity's Rainbow, and I felt I was reading something similar, but not as good. I did like the ending a lot, though.

To me it felt like a "real" inside look into military life from a soldiers point of view. People in the fifties or whenever it was written were probably so used to getting a bald eagle shoved up their ass this was a breath of fresh air. Catch-22 probably felt naughty to them as it made our fine, dedicated, brave, intelligent war heroes look like cowardly simps or maniac war mongers even if that was closer to the truth. Its old hat to us now and has been done a lot better since but was probably original and great in its time. And anyone who thinks this is a really funny book I feel sorry for your friends.
