Mistborn

I just read the fantasy books, Mistborn the Final Empire and its sequels by Brandon Sanderson. I really liked them, would anyone suggest something similar in terms of magic system, writing style and such?

I thought the series was magical, although the world it painted wasn't too convincing and seemed kind of bland and pasted together. The characters, and the whole magic of it were great. If anyone's read this could you recommend some more?

Mistborn's magic system is fairly unique, so I'm not sure you'll find any similar series in that vein. I'm also not that good at comparing writing styles so I can't help you there.

In fact, I don't think I helped you at all.

Ahh, wasn't expecting some magic solution, but I just liked it so much. Mistborn carried me through highschool, I liked all the characters and the fact that there was a female heroine, I don't really see many of those in the "pick up your sword" (or in this case obsidian dagger) and slay the dark lord types of stories.

Have you heard of Elizabeth Moon's Paksenarrion or Mary Gentle's Ash? They both have heroines who are/become mercenaries, but there's no dark lords.
