High expectations about H. P. Lovecraft

I would love to get into H. P. Lovecraft, but his body of work is so large I don't know where to start (or for that matter what would be a logical sequence to read the books in once I've started).

I'm also open to any suggestions in the same vein.

Most of his stuff is public domain, so if you don't mind reading from a screen:

http://www.templeofdagon.com/lovecraft-archive/stories/ is a great source.

I don't really have a recommendation as to where to start, but Rats in the Walls and The Other Gods were the first I read, and I thought they were great.

you should definitely read "The Colour Out of Space". its really creepy also by todays standard. i also recommend "The Shadow over Innsmouth". its just a classic.

The Shadow out of Time and At the Mountains of Madness are also great.

Get Bloodcurling Tales of Horror & The Macabre: The Best of H.P. Lovecraft. It basically does have all of his best stuff in it.

There are actually 4 books by that publisher, each with different stories all connected by the time period in which he wrote them.  Get all 4 and you'll have pretty much most of his body of work.

Start wherever the fuck you want.  He's a short story writer, his longest being probably only about 100 pages.  The stories are interconnected by the mythos, but very few of them have any direct connection to one another.

Don't change these.
