Space Combat in Sci-Fi

Name: Anonymous 2009-08-29 23:20

Hello, anons. I was recently reminded of the joys of space combat- Catching an excerpt from the old Halo novels, containing a fascinating description of the ship to ship combat. I was wondering if the sci fi readers who peruse this board could recommend anything similar- Generally, any books with space naval battles.

Thanks in advance.

Only thing I've read with space combat was Ender's Game

The Forever War

Both of those look extremely promising. Thanks for the suggestions.

Oh great, not a lolspacecombat thread. Charlie Stross probably comes closest to sane in this arena, for example in Singularity Sky. Or you could just read Star Wars books.

Are sci fi threads like this one common? Honestly, I don't go to /book/ much. I'll check out your suggestions too, in any case.

Not in /book/, but space combat is a pretty frequent shitstorm topic.

Seems like Honor Harrington books and other milscify books would have a lot of space combat.

Glen Cook's The Dragon Never Sleeps has plenty of capital ships pummelling on each other and his Passage at Arms has space action that is akin to WW2 submarine warfare.

Peter F Hamilton is one of my favorite sci-fi writers.

His "Night's Dawn" trilogy is filled with "realistic" space-combat. Most of his books are great (his Greg Mandel books are lacking compared to his other books), and I highly recommend them, but if ship-to-ship combat is what you're after, just focus on the "Night's Dawn" trilogy.

Hope that helps!

Jack Campell's lost fleet series it pretty much all about space battles.

John Steakley's "Armour"

Don't change these.
