Chuck Palahniuk thread. I want to start to read his books, but first, i want some questions answered. Wich one do you consider the best? How "mainstream" is this writer? What reputation does he have (i saw someone saying he's writing teenage literature)?
What he writes definitely appeals to teenagers and people with a teenage mentality. If you are interested in more mature books, look for something else.

I've only read Fight Club but it's not the teenage shitfest people make it out to be. It's about integrity and learning to live for your own desires instead of for the sake of people's expectations. It appeals to teenagers, sure, but that doesn't mean it doesn't make a good point.

Palahniuk is God Tier, OP.
Read Fight Club, Rant and Lullaby first. He is hated because he is popular.

I watched the movie Fight Club-- should I read the book? The movie was fairly enjoyable albeit a tad immature and teenage-angsty.

If you read something by him read Rant, it is by far his best book and I didn't feel like I was reading a magazine when I read it.

Well it's really about learning to stand on your own two feet and live your own life, which happens to be very applicable to college age kids given the time in their life, this however does not mean that it is solely meant for them. Also Rant is bad ass, though it times it went a little over board with "question everything" theme

There is this short story in Haunted called Guts. It's about how masturbation can go wrong. And it is real, it happened to some guys he met when he was writing Choke.
While he toured United States to promote Haunted, he read Guts to the public and almost in every crowd somebody would faint because of it.
In total he says that more then 70 people fainted to Guts while he read it to the public.
