I finally decided to start reading more than I should and I got a chance to read what most consider great literature. I wanted to talk about them. I read three books last month: Malcolm X, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, and Catcher in the Rye.

First off, Malcolm X. As a white man, he really got my blood boiling, he made me want to hate him and debate with him on racial issues because he used so many logical fallacies (straw man, poisoning the well, antiquity/elder fallacy, etc). Towards the end he became a nicer person and I think he realized his errors.

Do Androids Dream of Electric sheep: Great book although I wasn't all that into the whole "Mercerism" deal, especially towards the end. Maybe I'm too young to imagine the technology and it seems like a gadget someone from the 70's would make. I haven't seen Bladerunner though.

Catcher in the Rye: I think this book should be mandatory reading in school. I read shitty books like the Scarlet Letter. It really gets into the head of a sulky teen. I could relate a little but as a geek I have to say that he was too ballsy for me.

Sorry for making a thread on three books, I'd rather keep it in one thread rather than fill the front page.

1.  That's kind of the whole point with Malcolm.  We'll never know how great he might have become, and in light of recent events, he may have become a much needed bridge to Islam

2.  Bladerunner is awesome.

3.  The Scarlet Letter is not a shitty book.  Caulfield is a sulky teen.  I guess I always hated him; 'cause I was an angry teen, and I thought he was a bitch.

Don't change these.
