The Dwarf by Per Lagerqvist
It's not a fantasy dwarf though, it's a real one.
He is also the only character i have ever identified with.

This really is a pitifully neglected area of literature, isn't it?

Much of the "Nightwatch" series of the Discworld books could technically apply. Though Carrot is six feet tall and clean shaven, having been adopted by dwarves.

Shadowmoon, the first book of The Chronicles of the Shadow War by Christ Claremont has a nelwyn (hobbit analog) as the main character. But seeing as this series is the "sequel" to Willow, with the story by George Lucas and the writing by a man most well known for comic book adaptations, it's not surprising that the series really blows. It was so good when I was in middle school, who would've thought it'd be unreadable now?

Don't change these.
