I see a lot of people around my college reading Bret Eaton Ellis novels. I've never read anything by him; I have seen American Psycho and Rules of Attraction movie adaptions though, and rather enjoyed them. The question I come bearing is. Is he a really good author and worth looking into, or is he one of those "Hipster students think they are cool reading this shit" authors? Sorry for the really terrible grammar etc..., I'm not a very literate man.

He must be a good novelist if this guy's gonna be an uppity nigger about the spelling of his name. Either that, or he's the /b/tard's novelist.

just watch the movies (they arent 100% accurate but they capture the feel of the books without all the other dumb shit) and maybe if you feel like it read less than zero
skip the rest of his books and forget he exists

He's OK, most known for American Psycho... I liked Rules of attraction and The informers better. He is worth a read, but I wouldn't say he is a MUST read. He's not a great writer, but I wouldn't say it's terrible writing. It's more... accessible.. not Tom Clancy accessible, but still an easy read all the same.

American Psycho was really good but his other books were not particularly good.

Most of his books are really worthwhile reads. Very dark and vicious, though.

I'm reading American Psycho right now and honestly I've started skimming huge chunks of it where he is just talking about his favorite artists or giving detailed lists of clothing or apartment furnishings. The parts where he kills people ore fucks a bunch of bitches make me giggle though.
