Anything similar to this one out there? I'm not searching for Verne's novels (could be that I missed one of his), just something with that classical scifi/adventure setting and with similar setting.

HG Wells is a pretty cool guy.  Fun stuff, check out his short stories.
Aside from that maybe Heinlen's shorter stories?
Uhm.  Perhaps Mike Resnick's weird western~y scifi books?  Santiago and The Oracle and whatnot.  I swear Joss Wheadon must have read them.
And there's E.E. "Doc" Smith's Lensman series if you don't mind a healthy dose of misogyny.

The Lost World (SIR ARTHUR CONNAN DOYLE NOT THAT MICKY CRICHTON FELLOW) is definately a classic adventure, but I don't exactly remember it clipping along.
