Science Fiction, mostly the hard type.

I would like to know what you guys consider the best in hard sci-fi. When I say hard I mean stories that go someway to explain how whatever fantastic situation the book deals with could theoretically be possible.

For example im about halfway through Eon by Greg Bear and ive not long read Renevous With Rama by Arthur C. Clarke too.

Peter J. Watts (Rifters), Gregory Benford (Galactic Center), and Kim Stanley Robinson (Mars trilogy) are some of my favorites.

Dangerous Visions, edited by Harlen Ellison

Aasimov and Clarke are two of my favorites; Ringworld by Larry Niven was pretty good, not sure how hard you could consider it though.

The Foundation Trilogy (there's a total of seven books in the Foundation series, but I've only read the three) is some of the best and most entertaining hard sci-fi I've ever read.  Clarke also has some excellent collaborations with younger authors.

Greg Egan. The stories he writes are mostly a mix of quantum physics, artificial intelligence and philosophy. I think his best works are Axiomatic (short story collection) and Diaspora (novel).

Does Foundation really count as hard sci-fi? Either way, all seven are worth your time. Damn hard to find them all, though.
