Hopefully I'm not touching upon a trite subject, but: the prize for literature is going to be announced on Thursday; who do you think deserves it this year?
The Führer of the Swedish Academy claimed just recently that "The US is too isolated, too insular. They don't translate enough and don't really participate in the big dialogue of literature", so don't get your hopes up on an American laureate.

Oh great, it's some French dude no-one's heard of and probably hasn't had any of his shit translated, now I'll have to learn French and hunt down some pirated books of his, that's just great.

Okay, after doing a bit of research, I've discovered that some of his stuff has been published in English, but I think I'll go ahead and learn French anyway, it might be pretty fun.
